22/8/13 13:25Next time I am in a bike accident, even a very small one, I will try to make sure I get the driver's name and insurance info and the information for any witnesses at the scene and make a police report. I'm trying not to blame myself for not being more level-headed in this instance. I know it's because in a situation like that the flow chart in one's brain is basically going to be:
Are you physically able to book it out of there? ---> BOOK IT OUT OF THERE.
(I, um, wrote the driver's license plate on my hand, and then got my hand greasy putting the chain on my bike, and then I washed my hand. Thanks, me.)
(Also I am trying not to be overly cynical but I do not feel like the NYPD is inclined to take the side of the cyclist in an accident.)
Adrenaline is a heck of a pain-killer, and I was bad at assessing my injuries, which turned out to be a couple of nasty bruises where the tubes of the bike jolted against my legs. Still not anything I need medical attention for, but I feel bad knowing that I would have taken some of my options away had things been worse than I initially guessed.
I got a replacement for my debit card but I also lost my laundry card which had like $17 on it. :(
