As of yesterday, the stitches are out, the bandage is off, and I've been returned to normal activities.

I actually have more motion in the finger than I expected. Whether that means I'll get my full range of strength and motion back eventually, I don't know. But even if I don't, it's no great loss -- I may not be able to play the piano but I think I may be able to manage a recorder; martial arts would probably be hard if I can't make a fist; I'll certainly never be a hand model (though I have to say, the scar looks better than I expected, too.)

It still feels pretty uncomfortable at times, but my doctor told me not to baby it. And I can basically type at normal speeds again, for which I can only cheer.

One of the things I love about writing a romance subplot: right at the beginning when the characters in question don't have any reason to like each other, and in fact seem to dislike each other quite strongly, but there's an electricity to their dislike of each other.

It is possible to do this very badly (see: 90% of romantic comedies).

Also there is Angsty Unspoken Subtext, which it is also possible to do very badly. But it's such fun.
