I have secured: 1 week annual leave in the middle of April. If the Cherry Blossom Forecast is correct, I will miss the cherry blossoms. But perhaps it will be wrong!

And now I have less than one month to plan my Japanese vacation.

One week is not a lot of time to do things. My initial plan, when I was thinking I'd go for two weeks in October, was to spend a lot of time walking around in the country -- but if you only have a week it almost makes more sense to stay in Tokyo and not spend your whole vacation on trains. And, I have never seen Harajuku, I have never seen Akihabara, and it would be pretty hard for me to get bored by staying in Tokyo for a week.

I still have to find a really pretty onsen somewhere.

A week is actually just about right for me. After that tourist fatigue sets in and it's all diminishing returns.

That trip to Gunma could be done in a day, you know. Or even an overnighter. And they have onsen, but there are also onsen near Tokyo itself.

I'm sure a week will be enough, and I'm just overestimating how much time I'll lose to jetlag.

I think I have a certain amount of bias left from living in Nagasaki, that it'll take me a whole day to get anywhere. But Tokyo is a lot more convenient to things.

OMF when will you be there?!

If you will be there before cherry blossoms, you will be there before me (I will be right after cherry blossoms, I think, :[ ).

I am going to Hokkaido and to Kansai!
We are basically not spending any time in Tokyo except for plane-hopping, but I am okay with this (because I know I will go back?!?!).

April 10th-ish to 18th-ish, most likely. Still have to book the plane tickets. Which normally would be just right for cherry blossoms, but they're forecast to be over by the end of March this year. (But if you're going to Hokkaido, you might catch them!)

Kyoto is more worth seeing than Tokyo, and Osaka at least as much so, and I really would love to visit Hokkaido, so I approve of your itinerary. But I have an Oh No Scary Tokyo reaction despite having spent a single day in it, during which time I managed not to get lost.
