One of my several roomates is a law student. He is extremely smart, and he is extremely good at deploying the twin Lawyer Powers of Knowledge and Yelling in order to get things done. We finally have internet, and for reasons I only wish I understood, it took a lot of Yelling to make that happen. But I didn't have to yell at anybody. And now he is on the phone going O Hai I Know Tenant Laws (relating to things that aren't especially serious, but I've just been sighing at, 'cause it's been hard enough attempting to get my plumbing fixed.)

Not that I'm having him fight my battles for me or anything - they're his battles that he wants to fight, and I just have the luck of being on the same side. Lawyers: they don't totally suck.

Except for blocking and weaving in ends, I have finished with one of my fingerless gloves. I think it should be very cute when done - it's in a variegated plum yarn with shades of lavender and merlot and blackberry. And soft, even though I didn't spring for the recommended "cashmerino" yarn.

Post pictures when you're done!

So now that you've done one, tell me: how difficult would they be for someone who can't wrap her mind around knitting, who can't keep a steady tension, and who can't count very well?

It was actually a good pattern for somebody who hasn't picked up anything more complicated than a scarf in a good fifteen years. The cables are not complicated at all, and it doesn't require counting higher than 5 after you cast on, and there aren't any lacy bits that will look bad if your tension's unsteady. About 90% is pretty easy, and then you get to the thumb, and the thumb requires either a good knowledge of knitting - the kind where you can intuit what you're supposed to do - or else trial and error and extreme care.

Woo-hoo! Then it may actually be something I can do! Thumb aside, that is. But it's tiny so if I have to rip out stitched then it's not like I have to start again from scratch.

(Once I re-teach myself how to do basic stitches again, that is.)
