Health care reform NOW.
20/5/08 14:56I got a bill from the doc I went to when I had strep throat. Apparently the insurance only covered part of my strep throat test, so I owe yet more in addition to the co-pay and the antibiotics they didn't cover. I get that insurance only covers "reasonable and customary" charges, but I didn't expect a dirty grey walk-in clinic with a doctor who said all of three words to me to charge more than what was reasonable and customary.
And apparently I have an unpaid radiology bill that I didn't know about.
None of which is nearly as bad as when my insurance for some reason didn't pay for my broken arm and I was out $2000. (But then, I was dealing with too much other stuff to even look at my paperwork, so that's probably my fault). It's not as bad as when I paid $50 to the walk-in clinic so that they could do nothing for the huge burn on my thigh, which is still a huge scar, though that might have been unavoidable and is certainly more my own fault for spilling boiling water on myself. Nor is it nearly as bad as not having insurance at all.
I just don't think the system works.
Or else I should be a lot less clumsy.
