We all survived our road trip, though I have no idea whether the other family members made it to their international destinations.
(Favorite road trip moment: the Waffle House waitress was saying how sunny and cheerful we all were and how she hoped she would wait on us every time we came here. I was like "Well, this one's going to Singapore and this one's going to Paris and this one's going to Ghana so it could be a while." Yes it's true. We live on a lot of continents.)
I cannot believe this snow. It's like, ici sont les neiges d'antan ("the snows of yesteryear") -- like when I was a kid in Montreal hiking through snowdrifts taller than me. Many of the streets in my neighborhood are unplowed; the buses are having a hard time getting through and I had to hike rather a long way to work. The buses are horrible mostly because even where the roads are clear and the sidewalks are clear, all the snow from the roads and sidewalks is piled up between them, and to get on a bus you're walking over, or through, a wall of hardened snow several feet high. Am so glad that this is my last day of work until Tuesday -- surely they must have it cleared out by then?
I FINALLY got through to JetBlue so they could cancel my ticket. They can't give me a refund, but they can give me a credit. I may have to take a vacation! (They don't fly to Madison, or I'd know what to do).
