So I'm officially going half-time starting June 22nd -- I have the rest of this week, and then two more, as a full-time employee.

I'm still more anxious and unhappy about this than anything else, despite the silver lining. This next month is not going to be too easy for me, while they're doing the budget negotiations.

My contract has a lot of bits and pieces in it -- I got some for S&A on signing, and I'm scheduled to be getting some more after turning in first chapter and synopsis (which I've done).

I am theoretically saving up for a down payment on a house and trying not to touch the book money -- it's not a question of having enough money in the bank to make it through the year. Which makes me feel bad for complaining! I've just been inculcated with the idea that you should treat any income from books like winning the lottery, and not try to live on it until you've got a bunch of books out and royalties coming in. Which is very sensible, and what I'd rather be doing.

Ah, I see. I'd love to be in that position. In our house, a new book cheque is immediate diverted to bills. And I totally understand the 'don't live on writing till you have multiple books and royalties' thing; I twitched a lot at first myself.

Yeah, I've been really lucky to have a steady paycheck to rely on.
