There was a point when the guy at Cohen's said, "I'll call you when they're ready," and then added "Probably Thursday."

"WHAT!?" I said. I do not normally shout at customer service people, but one goes to a one-hour glasses place to get one-hour glasses. Also, do I really want to watch the American Idol finale blind? NO. Seriously, it was kind of traumatic to be walking around Union Square without being able to clearly see in front of me -- it's just too many people and too much going on.

He was unflapped, and went in the back to check if they had my prescription in stock. Which they did. So I have new glasses now.

I had the old ones for over three years, so it was clearly time for new lenses as well as new frames -- fortuitously, I was planning on getting new glasses this week anyway. I'm out more money than I wanted to be, but the union paid for some of it, and I'll admit to being a total diva about my glasses. Not about designer frames, or anything -- but I'll spring for the anti-glare coating, and I'll spring for the super-lightweight lenses. My prescription is strong, and I really hate seeing the world through an inch of glass.
