Cake: About 90% decorated!

Salad: Done, except for dressing.

Bruschetta: Not yet started, better to prepare that closer to party time so the bread doesn't stale and the apples don't brown.

Cheese plate: ... It's a cheese plate.

Crudite plate: Done, including ginger-scallion dip!

Baked ziti: Prepped, will go into the oven 30 min. before serving.

Thai-style veg: Done!

I've had a hand in throwing more elaborate dinner parties, but this is the first one where I've really taken charge of the cooking -- so I certainly HOPE it turns out good!

I wish that it had turned out better! Basically, you chop up 1/4 cup of ginger (peeled) and 1/2 cup of scallions and a clove or two of garlic, and heat 1/2 cup of peanut oil in a saucepan until it just starts to smoke, then pour the oil over the ginger and scallions. For whatever reason, though, my end result was just chopped garlic/ginger/scallions swimming in oil, not actually very appetizing -- the garlic/ginger/scallion flavor was nice, but overwhelmed by the oiliness.
