I can't actually imagine knitting colorwork socks, because stranded knitting with skinny yarn takes absolutely forever, and I don't show off my socks enough for it to be worth it. (If I could ever find the mythical orthopedically-acceptable, not-overly-dowdy mary janes, that could change...maybe...)

Still, I must note Torchwood socks, Tardis socks. Hey, you never know.

My requirement is women's size 12 and flat or nearly flat. On the large side of 12 -- 43 in European sizes, and wide. (I cannot wear 12s from Dansko or Fluevog, which makes me very sad).

I can always find something on Zappos, but rarely anything that doesn't look dowdy or orthopedic, so if you have any ideas I'd be glad to hear them!

Have you ever tried Danskos in men's sizes?

I do wear men's shoes most of the time -- I live in Keen hiking shoes, even with skirts -- but that's why the mary janes remain mythical.

The Europeans are my favorite sort of weirdos. I have seen many a European dude wearing mary-jane style clogs so I hold out perpetual hope for imports.

Okay. I have more research to do, but I have a few recommendations.

Also, I think that Clarks should be taken out back and shot. When the best shoe name they can come up with is a retirement community in Florida, it's time to give up the ghost. What terrible shoes. Gosh.

Anyway, Birkenstock makes a whole world of cute things. I know they look stupid on the web, but some of them are just so cute. I'm a major Birkenstock fan so I'll try anything on, and most of them look better on feets. In particular, the Dorian two-strap mary janes are delicious. I've seen them in 44s, but my google-fu is failing me today. Birkenstock Bonns are the non-clog version with space to show off cute socks. Rosemeads are another mary jane clog option. I can't tell if they're being phased out, though.

I'm going to keep poking to find Dorians because I love them so much.

Dansko also makes their shoes up to 12.5/13...someone has to sell them in wide sizes. (Zappos has two mary jane styles in 12.5/13, but they're regular width.) I will keep poking.

Born also has some cute stuff, but I haven't found a website in English that sells the right sizes.
