In non-related news, it's not every day that someone suggests removing bone from one's skull...

Yeah, I went to the hand doctor. He said, "You already know about this," in such a way that I couldn't tell whether he was impressed with my efforts to educate myself, or he was thinking "Great, another person who thinks that the ability to Google makes them a doctor." It's pretty much as I expected; I'll need a bone graft from my hip (or my skull, which is kind of cool, but I'd just as soon not have anyone opening up my skull); I'll be in a cast for three weeks and then three to six months of therapy; and there's a possibility that the joint is irreparably damaged.

It's enough to make me feel guilty about not having this thing looked at sooner, even though I had no way of knowing that there was a problem.

Yeah, that's over the 'creepy!' line for me even though I don't believe in ghosts. But then I thought, maybe it wouldn't be too bad -- it seems like insult on top of injury to have to recover from hip surgery and hand surgery at the same time.
