Just as I was thinking about all the books I need to read that I haven't read yet (what can I say? It's awards season!) I tallied up my GoodReads total for this year -- I'm at 51. Which is not terrible. Not as high as I'd prefer, but not terrible. And no doubt I've missed a couple of books in GR.

I still have a couple of books that I feel I absolutely must read before the Printz is announced, so that I'll know how loudly to squee -- Impossible, Nation, Tender Morsels, Paper Towns, maybe What I Saw And How I Lied. Even if I have so much writing to do in December, I should still have time on the subway for those.

51 books, yet I've read only 14 of the hundred-some nominated for Best Books for Young Adults; only 1 of the NBA nominees for young people; and the Printz committee is likely as not to pull some book nobody's ever heard of out of a hat.

I think this is the year I abandon the idea of ever catching up.

Clearly award committee membership is a full-time job. That, or they skip when they read.
