I had a very exciting Wednesday, on which I met my editor and she told me all the major things that are wrong with my book. The minor things will wait for another time.

It was, mostly, not actually terrifying - because my editor is very nice, and I suspect she has experience in soothing tender writer egos, and also, I agree about everything. Mostly they were things I would have done on my sixth draft anyway, if I had suspected Totally Sweet Ninja Death Squad was even close to publishable. The only discouraging thing is the time crunch, and even that is only bad for two reasons --

One, I need to get hand surgery. (And I am seeing the doc about this on Wednesday). (I forgot to include enough context and my editor thought I was joking about this.)
Two, I am completely incapable of producing the required first-chapter-plus-synopsis of my next book by April unless I at least have a rough draft finished by then. If I don't know how it's going to end, I don't know how it's going to end, and I'm not likely to figure it out until I write it. Well... until I have at least 75% of a first draft, anyway. Which... almost seems doable, because I've got 45% or so right now.

I am joking about sequestering myself in my apartment, but I don't know if it would help; my writing brain shuts off after about 2 hours. Ah -- I do recall that the most success I had during NaNo is when I would write an hour in the morning and another two hours in the evening. Maybe I'll set my alarm early...
