I think the worst of my hand injury is past; I can go for hours without thinking of it, except in terms like "I better not buy a curtain rod until I get my splint off for good" or "Oops - I have one hand too few to stand up on the subway, unless I put my bag between my feet."

This is dangerous, because I forget to be careful about whacking my hand against things accidentally.
