I'm done with BushwickBK. (Blood pressure warning.)

I'm just... yeah, it's 85 degrees, I'm going home in half an hour, I have no rant left. Just argh.

Bushwick is fine! I have no problem with Bushwick at all.

My problem is with this guy who thinks it's okay to move into a neighborhood that isn't his own and blame people for not acting the way he wants them to act. My problem is with this guy who thinks it's okay to move into a neighborhood where the people don't have all the advantages he's had, and complain that it's not the hipsterville he wants it to be.

If you want to live in freaking hipsterville, live in freaking Williamsburg! If you want to live in hipsterville and you're living in Bushwick, it's either because you're too poor to live in Williamsburg proper, or you're a bloodsucking landlord getting rich off the people who are too poor to live in Williamsburg!

I mean, we'll go to Bushwick this weekend and you'll see how it is. It's not the prettiest neighborhood in the whole wide world (though there are spots of very nice architecture.) I'm not asking it to be the prettiest neighborhood in the whole wide world because, unlike Williamsburg, I can actually afford to live there. I don't have some organic grocery and yoga studio in walking distance, but if I did.... I couldn't afford to live there!

I think, when you move into a place where the culture is a little different, you bear some responsibility for accepting the differences nonjudgementally. If you move to the south, at some point you have to stop complaining about the accents and the idea of eating chitlins, right? It's not your neighborhood, it's not your place to criticize it for being what it's not. You don't have to LIKE it, you don't have to ADOPT it, but it's not your place to be telling other people how they should live their lives, ESPECIALLY when you have a lot more money than they do.

...Well, there's my rant.

But, Bushwick, yeah. It's fine. And even if you DO want the organic yoga grocery, if we're on the L train we can get to hipsterville in ten minutes.
