Thanks for posting that... I'm surprised though that an essay on "compulsory reading" would completely not touch upon books read for school, only books read for one's father or for work.

If I were to write an essay about compulsory reading, it would be entirely about how anything assigned to me for class was automatically less interesting, less desirable... Of course, in the end, now that it's been nearly ten years since I finished high school, I recognize that I still wouldn't care for the vast majority of those books.

Today, I lack a list, but I think that the ever-expanding bookshelves in my room comprise a sort of list. Tons and tons of things I haven't yet read, from history books in Japanese to a collection of short stories by Neil Gaiman to all sorts of sci-fi classics that my father can't believe I still haven't read. I was hoping to get more reading done this summer, but that's quickly starting to look like it's not going to happen.

Mh, sometimes. I got through great swathes of Eng.lit because I was depressed and figured that since nothing was going to make me feel better, I might as well be miserable to some purpose. I'm still depressed enough that it helps to have an outside reason for reading things- like, everyone else has- because otherwise I'd just play solitaire all the time.
