It's galling that, with a bit more than a week left to go until July 1st, I haven't heard anything definite one way or another about layoffs (other than "They're trying not to cut any jobs," which I've been hearing for months). I'm not even sure when I'll know - and how fast I'd be out of a job if that's how it turned out. As I've discovered, living in the same city as the major publishers does have its advantages - and I'm not finding too many jobs of interest elsewhere - so I'd really rather stay here and wait out the year till I become a senior librarian with something like a living wage. But if it's not to be, I'd like to know.

22/6/08 23:52 (UTC)Wow, that is irresponsible. July 1st being either the start of the new fiscal year or a previously-mentioned deadline for axe-falling, I presume?
I hope you don't get a pink slip, but yeah, if you do, it'd be nice if they told you in advance. :P

23/6/08 00:03 (UTC)People are trying to reassure me, but given that they're facing a $7 million budget cut and given that they had just hired about 120 new people and given that salaries make up about 70-75% of a library budget, I can't really make the math work out.
