I don't have any intention of writing up complete panel reports for any of these, because I wasn't taking notes or anything. I'll limit it to my own thoughts, stuff I said or tried to say or would've said or wouldn't have said because of the "My birthday" syndrome*, stuff I thought was particularly interesting.

*It's dangerous to tell stories about birthdays, because suddenly you have a group of preschoolers who all want to chime in to say "My birthday is--" "My birthday is--" "My birthday is--" -- and really, no one is as interested as they themselves are. It's the same way with panels. Discretion is the better part of not annoying people, and that is precisely why we have Livejournals.

-Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab sniffing: I did not stay here long because they only had the limited-editions out for sniffing, and I did not want to want things I could not have. But did you know that they're coming out with Good Omens scents? Yes.
My response, "Oh, my goodness. Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness. You just made a person happy."

-DIY temporary tattoos. I got silly. I put 強 on my arm because I felt like it, and all debates about cultural appropriation aside-- as I said later-- I've earned it. See... someone went and persuaded me to be in the "show us your tattoos" thing even though it was a cheesy temporary kanji tattoo (when can you have cheese, if not Wisconsin?). But I explained that it was about how, last time I was at a convention, I didn't really talk to anybody. And this time, I was trying really hard to talk to people, and hey, I was even up on stage showing off my cheesy temporary tattoo. And that is why I put "strength" on my arm. And people actually seemed to dig it. ^_^

-Cow tipping. They had an inflatable cow set up. You could throw stuffed cows at the inflatable cow to knock it over. I won a naked mole rat toy. This does not imply any particular skill on my part; most people I observed managed to get a prize, but I was the only one with a naked mole rat.

Brief side note Wiscon sure did make me feel feminine. In my daily life you don't really count as properly feminine unless you do the makeup and the high heels and stuff, but the spectrum of gender presentations at Wiscon is certainly wider. As you would expect.

-Tiptree auction preview. I did not bid on anything, that time 'round, but I did take a look at the stuff they had for direct sale, and netted myself an ARC of Boy Meets Boy for $4 (!!!!) as well as a Tiptree bake sale cookbook.

-Panel: The Feminist Appeal of Kelly Link's fiction.

I, uh, haven't read Kelly Link's fiction. I wanted to go to a panel that [livejournal.com profile] coffeeandink was on, and that's the only one that fit into my schedule. But now I really really want to read Kelly Link's fiction! The panelists said some really interesting things about structure and stories that are either "broken" or leave a gap that needs to be filled in by the reader. These are things I really like.

Saturday is more interesting!

Your temp tattoo story is awesome.

I liked the tattoo show & tell, what I saw of it--alas, my tattoos are really boring: a female sign around my bellybutton (I was a Riot Grrrl in high school, what can I say?) & a star on my hip (b/c I studied abroad in England & loved it & wanted something to mark that, & hey, I like stars). I keep contemplating larger, more interesting tattoos, but... my pain tolerance has gone way down. Alas.

I love the gender presentation variety @ WisCon! If only real life felt as safe & encouraging of experimentation as WisCon does.
