But I recalled what I wanted to post, and didn't post because I was exhausted from putting books on the shelves.

Namely: we have manga.

Full set of Bleach, full set of Naruto, full set of Angel Sanctuary, full set of Dragonball Z, full set of Inu Yasha, full set of Fushigi Yuugi... Fruits Basket, Red River...

We have split off a section for the adult graphic novels, because I was starting to get antsy about shelving Angel Sanctuary in the middle of the adult fiction under "angel."

Speaking of which. The cataloging on these is abysmal. The '100 Bullets' comic: some are under 'Bullets,' some are under 'One Hundred," some are under "Azzarello" (the author's name). Likewise, some of Death Note is under 'Death Note' and some is under 'Yanagi.' For now I am going by the spine label even if it means splitting up a series which ought to go together; otherwise I will be the only person who knows graphic novels intimately enough to be able to find them on the shelves when there's a request for them. Later I may be able to make new spine labels; but I don't think I can actually go in and change the catalog records, if that's where the problem lies.

We really do not have enough space on the shelves for all the graphic novels.

I think I should check out a ton to free up more space. Wouldn't that be the kind thing to do?

(We have so little space on the shelves. I was wishing I could somehow 'lose' all the Amish books, which won't circulate in this most un-Amish of libraries; we wound up pulling all the double copies of books and putting them into boxes, which will do fine for now. We also have too many cookbooks, and I think I'll have to check some out to remedy the situation.)

Thoughtful, considerate, and so *like* you; yes. Though the thought of reading any of those in English is making me hivey, largely because I *have* read chunks of Bleach in English. However you'll be able to tell from that translation exactly what the Japanese says. It's- ermm- that kind of translation.

Why do you have Amish books, for the love of Pete?

I know the translations will grate, but I may as well read them somehow if I don't feel impassioned enough to read them in Japanese. Maybe Angel Sanctuary will make more sense in English, though I'm not counting on it.

In the past, Central Library Administration's policy has been, "Let's send them books that are really popular, or by someone black." Maybe because they had to find 8000 new books to send us, maybe as a permanent shift in policy, they seem to be sending us everything. But their 'everything' is aimed at a county that is mostly white, upper-middle-class, Christian... so we get Amish books and medieval romances and other books that aren't going to get checked out.

Better too many books than too few. That's my consolation.
