US-Japan relations are presently strained by efforts in the US Congress to pass Resolution 121 in the House of Representatives. The bipartisan bill would demand Japan's renewed apology to so-called "comfort women" -- women that were allegedly forced into prostitution by the Japanese military during World War II.

Do I think that Japan needs to apologize in a way that isn't weaselly and ambiguous? Yes.
Do I think that a country that has a lot of past it hasn't dealt with well, and that is trying to weasel into making torture legal, and that is engaged in an immoral war, ought to be telling them what to do? Nggaaaah.

Only if Japan gets to pass a resolution that the US needs to apologize, fifty years hence.

Maybe Japan should pass a resolution demanding the US offer a formal apology and compensation to bombing victims in Vietnam?

Lol. Good thinking, taku. I think it'd be nice if Japan passed a resolution demanding the US apologize for using Japan as a tool, as their outpost in the East against Communism.

Japan doesn't get it that glossing things over doesn't make them go away yet?? I mean American is just plain in denile. I mean we're america! We're awesome! We help and rescue people from themselves!....whatever.

This whole male ego thing of admitting guilt and admitting defeat undermining their power is gross. Instead of posturing and denying, what happened to the strength of embracing the truth and the past and learning from it?

That's... strange... because I just saw an article on CNN.com about how the United States soldiers stationed in Japan also used those comfort women!!!

ARGH.
