I am gleeful, and nervous, that I have managed to get Japanese e-books to display properly on my computer. The only thing keeping my spending in check was the money for shipping, and the shipping time, and figuring out where to store something I'd never bring myself to get rid of... The other upside: not having to explain my reading tastes to my parents. BL book covers tend towards the embarrassing.

The very first book I downloaded? "1000 kanji (and kanji compounds) that are embarrasing to not be able to read." I can read a good, uh, dozen.

(This doesn't mean that I won't also be spending a great deal at Amazon Japan, since as far as I can tell a good number of the books I want aren't available in e-book form).

ETA: Sheet music! Online! For 100 yen! (faints)

here (http://www.hon-michi.net/densho.htm)'s a list of them; I've only tried downloading anything from papy.co.jp so far, but that seemed to work well enough (no major software incompatibilities or payment glitches or anything like that).

OMG. Those kanji. Not even sure I can read a dozen, and that's just in the sample. But now I want the damn thing in paperback so I can sit down with the wordtank and work through them.
