owlectomy: A squashed panda sewing a squashed panda (foxwedding)

Have at last finished translating Angel's Coffin, something I'd been working fitfully on since realizing that I had promised to translate some manga for a friend and then pretty much forgotten about that for a while.

I love Wikipedia. The manga deals with Mary Vetsera and the Mayerling incident, and for someone like me who only has the shallowest knowledge of European history, I wouldn't have even been able to get the names right without it. Well, I would have; it's just that I wouldn't have bothered.

...I think I liked the manga better when I read it breathlessly without pausing to deal with the politics or look anything up. But that's the way it goes; and Higuri Yuu does draw pretty boys.

Oh, and today is fox-wedding weather: rain while the sun shines, as I found out when I decided to go for a bike ride.

There are very few manga I can think of that benefit from having one's translator's nose shoved into their text up close for long periods of time, and Higuri You hasn't written any of them. She draws pretty boys but there's no there there, and its lack eventually makes the art style as well look glossy and empty.

(To explain the venom: I just finished Gorgeous Carat 2 the other day and am still displeased at the waste of potentially decent characters.)
