I had not been on my bike since Tuesday, and the weather had improved, so even though it was below 40 and windy I grumbled and set out to do twelve miles.

There are still plenty of roads in the area I haven't explored, so I went up around the area northwest of Carrboro, up past Calvander, where it's fields and broken-down farmhouses, and not TOO hilly. The road was deserted, and as I unexpectedly passed a field with three horses, I called out:

"Horsies! Hello!"

I don't know why I feel compelled to greet farm animals. You're grateful for something to break up the monotony, when you're out for over an hour.

It is at this moment that a guy in full black-and-yellow cycling get-up zooms past me, saying "Hello" as he does so.

Embarrassing enough, among Carrboro's cycle-geeks, that I don't have adequate clothing (bike shorts under jeans, in the winter) or an adequate bike, but... horsies. Yeah.

I still point horsies out when we drive through Ontario. And wave at herds of cows, too. So you're in good company!
