Stayed up until 2 a.m. watching the last episodes of Sailor Moon last night with a friend. I don't think I've even seen an episode in about six years--but I never did finish the series, and I got surprised at how touching something could be when I had dismissed it as about, oh, the girly equivalent to Dragon Ball. It's at least partially because Mitsuishi Kotono can bawl her eyes out very convincingly.

Wow, nostalgia. And idealism, and intense happiness. It would be lame of me to say that I miss high school at all because those were not some very good years, but...there are things I do miss, somehow.

Said friend also gave me the first DVD of 12 Kingdoms because she didn't have enough money to collect a series that long. Rock. I've been reading the first novel. For the last six months. The first time around all the names got real confusing, and the second go-round's a little better, but I think it'll help if I can watch it on TV with everything sorted out for me.

I also borrowed a manga with the unlikely title of "Requiem in Phonybrian" to see if I could make heads or tails of it. It's about an angel and a suicide whose name is, uh, Phonybrian. As in Phony Brian. His father was pretty messed up. Rather charming, for all that it follows the unquiet-dead clichés of manga note for note.

DVDs and reasonable subtitles help a lot in sorting who's who and what's what. I admit to still being vague on what all of Keiki's shirei/ supernatural servants are- we got red wolves and glaucous hinman and that feathery nyokai/ nanny of his and not a few riding beasts. After viewing the first eps you'll probably want to go back to vol 1 for help sorting out the anime. (If it helps you're welcome to borrow my illegal and unhelpful DVDs of essentially vols 2 and 3 of the English release. After that I get legit.)
