At the risk of making myself look silly:
Chinese is really hard! You'd think there'd be more transfer from Japanese, even though they're not actually related, but no...it's just hard.
Then again, hard is fun. I can sink my teeth into it. Spanish is so closely related to French that it really isn't that hard in some respects, so I can't really convince myself to study it--yet it's not so easy that I can just open a book and read for fun. It would help if I could take a structured class, but my skills are so unbalanced that I'm not sure if I could find one at my level; still, I'm satisfied that my Spanish is professionally adequate, if on the low end of professionally adequate. (Can I put that on my resume? "On the low end of professionally adequate"? I can't think of anything less informative than "intermediate"...)
Anyway, I get to go up to Montreal soon, which means a trip to Chinatown and maybe some CDs and translated manga. And food OH THE FOOD. The Chinese food around here is--well, it's actually fairly decent, sometimes, but that's the most I can say for it.
