There's a certain cognitive dissonance in realizing that you want to write a quasi-Chinese fantasy Romance* and Latin-American magical realism**. I wonder what quantities of drugs it would take to do them both in the same book.

Well, there's always NaNoWriMo.

Now for more slashing at chapter five. I think my printer's contemplating giving out on me--it's five years old, and I'm not sure how long printers generally last, but I have used it pretty hard. At least we have free printing at school. (And of course I have massive printer envy, just because this year's technology is so much nicer than the technology of five years ago, but I can't afford it. And this one works just fine.)

*Old definition thereof, as in Romance of the Rose, Chanson de Roland, Orlando Furioso, etc.

**I'm reading Like Water For Chocolate in Spanish. I only made it to the onions when I tried it last year, and this year I'm doing better; I made it to the quail.

It's a fine thing to discover that there are all sorts of fun giggly bits in the story one's currently working on hacking to pieces. That's chapter five done with--and it's cute.

Ywah, well... why not? It's not like the fantasy romances aren't close kin to magic realism; so set it in China and presto. *I'd* read it.

Okay then!

(But I can't let myself get too distracted while revising, because I hate revising and like new shiny things, and if I let myself I'd never have anything but rough drafts...)
