Does anyone else find it incredibly ironic that Orson Scott Card is pleading for a more compassionate, tolerant society--instead of one that abuses and condemns people who are fat? Apparently it's okay to condemn and abuse people if they're gay or Muslim, but if they have the issue that Orson Scott Card has, then it's time to be compassionate and tolerant.
It's true that the current wailing and moaning about the problem of obesity is more about moral panic than health. It's true that we need to be compassionate and tolerant. But it smells of "MY problem isn't really a problem. YOUR problem, on the other hand..."
