Regarding my handwaving, inarticulate protests that I didn't really buy Anakin's whole character arc in Revenge of the Sith, see here.

Ostensibly, Anakin turns on the Jedi because 1) he is told that only Sith powers can protect Padme from the death he has foreseen for her, and 2) he is an impatient, short-tempered, somewhat petty apprentice who wants power he hasn't earned. [...] But the thing is, you can't have it both ways -- not with the way these motivations would play out in the plot, and not with Hayden Christensen tasked with acting them. [...] But in his defense, almost nobody could have portrayed Anakin with these two motivations, because they work at cross-purposes.

Yes--he's not so much believable as the tragic hero who does what he believes he has to in order to save Padme, because he's whiny and impatient and arrogant, and it would have worked much better if the movie had played him as a whiny impatient arrogant kid seduced by power rather than saddling him with tragic baggage and good motivations.

The first two movies set him up as the whiny kid who's also creepily obsessed with Padme, and I think THAT could've been a story, and Lucas needs a whack upside the head for going the mushy route.
