Question: Can the novella I just read in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction fill me with enough pure rage that I succeed in finally finishing a short story for once in my life?

Let's find out.

If nothing else, it was a blow to my sense of paralyzing perfectionism.

The title is "In Her Eyes." The prose is boring, it starts out vaguely sexist and gets a lot more so, the surprise twist is that the shape-changing girl has a secret subconscious identity as a boy because her father (who is Chinese) wanted a boy, and it all seems pretty racist and not based in anything to do with actual contemporary Chinese society. And weirdly gender-essentialist. And it's wrong about the proper taxonomy of Brontosaurus.

It doesn't rise to the level of being hilariously bad, just the level where I'm mad about wasting the time it took to read 17,000 words on it.
