Meaghan, don't read this post!
Sometimes it takes the thing you're scared of happening, to remind you that the scary thing is not necessarily the end of the world.
(This is not about my book. Yet. Though poetic justice sometimes has a lousy sense of timing.)
I was riding my bike down Ocean avenue when a car unexpectedly turned left in front of me, in the middle of the block -- I don't know whether they were trying to park or do a U-turn or what. I put on my brakes as hard as I could, but not fast enough, and I ended up having a dramatic unplanned deceleration right into the side of the other guy's car.
I didn't even fall off my bike, though I got a little scrape on my leg somehow. As far as I can tell there was no damage to the bike either -- I had to put the chain back on, but the front wheel still seems to be in true, and I rode it the rest of the way home without any problems. I had a pretty calm discussion with the driver about right of way, and we were mutually satisfied that there wasn't any damage, so we went on our way...
It's only after I got home that I remembered to be scared.
Ugh, I was doing really well with biking. (Except for hills, because hills are terrible.) I don't want to get scared off again but I'm scared I might not be tough enough.
