I am tremendously amused that, thanks to the baseball module of Wii Sports, I now know the rules of baseball decently well, and a little better than a lot of the kids who play Wii at the library. Today I surprised myself by saying, "It's an out even though it bounced because he has time to throw it to first base before the runner can get there!"
This is amusing to me partly because one of my great school sports failures was being made to play softball although no one had ever explained the rules to me. In elementary school this was fairly bad. By middle school they just stuck me in the far far outfield and I pretended to make an effort when a ball sailed by me.
Anyway, I made myself a little Emily-avatar when I first set up the Wii. So of course, when wee Emily came up to bat, she hit the dinkiest foul ball that has ever been seen, then blinked and looked around in confusion. I was thinking, "Yeah, avatar-Emily! That's how WE play the game!"
LOL astigmatism.
