It is: more potato chips, less broccoli. (Metaphorically speaking.)

There were so few books this year that I read because I genuinely wanted to read them, although there were a heck of a lot of books I read out of a sense of duty that I also genuinely wanted to read, or didn't know anything about but ended up loving.

I just kinda hate having my head full of things I ought to be watching, reading, studying, when I already have a full-time job and a book to revise. There is a lot of stuff I want to accomplish and a lot of stuff that needs to get done, but... "because I SHOULD" is not actually a good way to run your entire life.

Apparently, if you leave me alone for twenty minutes, I will manage to find any bookstore in immediate walking radius and make off with some loot.

Or so I discovered when I managed to acquire a Chinese children's retelling of Saiyuuki (with pinyin!) in the twenty minutes between the time I arrived for dim sum and the appointed meet-up time.

No one who knows me well is surprised.

(Note to self: Confucius Books, at the corner of Pell and Bowery, for a really good selection of Chinese children's books. Still looking for a good source of Chinese manhua and manga, but I hear there's one over in Queens.)

Since I'm presenting on Code Name Verity for Mock Printz, and I haven't read it since... March? April? It was before I moved -- well in any case, I'm rereading it.

Spoilers, not detailed I think but if you haven't read it it's a better book if you come in totally unspoiled. )

I have MockPrintz coming up in just one week, and I've been putting off the reread because it's too sad, but... I'm actually kind of putting a lot of pressure on myself to write so convincingly about it that people will vote for it.
