If the medical lab claims it will have the test results back for you within 24 hours, you will actually have the test results in:

a) 24 hours
b) 3 days
c) 9 days
d) sometime shortly before the heat death of the universe

It doesn't help that my finger suddenly started hurting again, either.

Update: the answer turned out to be C. Well..... it is progress. It is the sort of progress that makes me look forward to the rum punch this weekend, but it is progress.

Richard Engel's A First in the Hornet's Nest recounts the author's time in the Middle East leading up to, during, and after the recent war in Iraq.

Published in 2004. When there were still people who were willing to argue that it was over.

Weird, how bitter that feels now.

(Also, I am weeding the heck out of that book, but just because it hasn't been checked out a single time in the last five years, and we have a pretty good number of Iraq war books that are more up-to-date... and also weeding the one that says, "Chalabi also states that Iranians are prepared to help the United States remove Saddam from power... It appears that Iraq will never realize its full potential while Saddam Hussein is in power.")
