In Carroll Gardens...
9/11/08 21:09Walking around in Carroll Gardens today [side note: I am in love with Carroll Gardens], I had a sudden intense reminiscence of Montreal. I think it was the weather; in my mind Montreal is always about 45 degrees and crisp, even though I know that I have written things like "My skin shouldn't be that colour, should it?".
The nicest parts of Brooklyn always end up making me think of Montreal. It's not so much that I want to move - for the first time in a long while I find that I really like where I live. It's just that when I walk around Carroll Gardens, for example, I feel like I could live there for the rest of my life. And it is not very likely that I could afford to live there for the rest of my life - but Montreal, I maybe could afford to live there. That's kinda comforting. (Real estate prices in New York are dropping, but I doubt they'll drop far enough for me.)
I put up my curtain, and I'm cleaning up and unpacking, and feeling very domestic and nesty - especially in the autumn weather. I like it here.
