This feels like a repudiation of this nonsense division between real Americans and blue-state latte-sipping arugula-eating elitists. This feels like a repudiation of the idea that Americans are too fearful and insular to recognize good, intelligent leadership when they see it. I mean I'm just saying this because I'm drunk, but I'm sober enough to spell repudiation, I guess.

NO, LITE FM, IT IS NOT BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS.

Even if it did hail on me last week.

My hopes

(1) Protecting human rights. No torture. No extraordinary rendition. No Guantanamo. No deporting legal aliens with misdemeanors on their records.

(2) Getting out of Iraq.

(3) Health care reform, especially for the self-employed, the nominally self-employed (permalancers, for example), those who can't get health care through their employers.

(4) Public transportation reform. Joe Biden rides on Amtrak - let him make it a priority!

(5) Tackling global warming.

It's not that I think Obama's going to do all of this. But at least he makes vague gestures in the direction of caring about these things. And I'm daring to hope more than I have in a while.

And, while I'm posting, a bright blue drink recipe courtesy of my sister:

Blue Curacao
Absolut Mandrin
Sierra Mist
Gatorade Frost

Yes, I drank a cocktail with Gatorade in it. And I liked it!
