30/4/08 23:20I really ought to have gone to a library conference by now, but I decided that until I'm high-level enough that I can have my expenses paid, I'll only go to a conference that's in a place I'd want to go anyway. Looking at the dates for the next year or two, we have:
ALA (American Library Association) conference, summer 2009 in Chicago
ALA midwinter meeting, Jan. 2010 in Boston
PLA (Public Library Association) conference, March 2010 in Portland, Oregon.
Which all have things to recommend them. I'll definitely try to do Boston because - if I am still here - transportation would be cheapest, and the midwinter meeting is when the Newbery and Printz and other awards get given out, which is always very exciting. Portland is very far but I would really like to visit the northwest eventually; and because it's the public library association, the presentations there might be more relevant to me. But it would probably be smarter just to keep it to one conference if it's coming out of my own pocket.
