JLPT report
3/12/07 07:29It was pretty much like the practice tests. I had places where I knew the answer straight off, and places where I dithered, and places where that was a word I had never seen before in my life. I don't know how the balance between those is going to work out. But I do know what I'm going to need to work on if I have to take the test again - kanji, kanji, kanji.
It looks like most people got their scores back at the beginning of Februrary. It seems like a silly amount of time to take to run a Scantron through the computer, but I'm actually not particularly anxious. My anxiety was overwhelmed by a feeling of boredom, and utter loathing for the concept of standardized testing in general. Not as an ideological position; but having a tiny little desk, and no place to stretch your legs, and having four hours regimented into when you can work and when you have to take a break. And having people around me who sighed loudly (as if past tests weren't available online! I know it's hard, but I can't hear the listening section!) or didn't bring their pencils.
It was a well-constructed test, at least if the items I'd never seen before were really things I should have been expected to know. The listening comprehension was nice and varied, and there was some fun stuff in the reading. My study books didn't seem to help too much... except on the grammar; I guess there's a limit to the slightly-obscure constructions they can throw at you.
I am hopeful; I've also kind of moved beyond caring whether I pass or not.
