I think I've reached the stage where there's nothing more I can do for Wish You Were Here. That's not to say it's any good, just that it's reached the limits of my ability. But I am happy with it. It had bits that made me smile even the third time through. So I'm printing it out and calling it done.

(Yes, Meaghan, I did see Mean Girls! And it did make my anxious for just a moment--why did it have to be Chicago?--but there's not that much overlap.)

There are a heck of a lot of nerve endings in one's face. This is why falling on one's face is generally not a great idea. I'll keep that in mind next time. (Also? I look like I have a wound mustache. This is so unattractive that it hurts even my meager vanity.)

I showed my mom how to use iTunes today. The nice thing about luddites is that it's easy to impress them.

T!

1) Tea. Back when I had an even pickier palate than I do now, I loved it as a social ritual more than a drink; it makes me think of overanalyzing anime.

2) Takemiya Keiko. She wrote the manga "Song of the Wind and Trees," which was so beautifully melodramatic and sad and intense that I started translating it, and then stopped translating it because it was making me depressed. I spent the next couple of years trying to lower my expectations of yaoi, because there wasn't anything else like it.

3) My Twin! Meaghan is totally awesome. She worked really hard to get a job in the animation industry at a time when most of the jobs are getting outsourced, and she is mature and practical and has actual social skills!

4) Trolleys. When I first moved to Nagasaki, I thought, 'Oh, that's quaint,' but trolleys are actually a great way to get around--they're friendlier than buses, somehow. More cities should have them.

5) Tangerines. Maybe my favorite fruit. Definitely up there in the top three.

6) Thursday Next. The books got progressively less interesting after the first one, but the first one was pure genius, so that's still a positive as far as I'm concerned.

7) Tintin. Some of the books were totally racist, this is true, but Tintin and Asterix comics remain one of the few positive associations I have with France.

8) James Tiptree. Writer of good stuff.

9) The TARDIS. I want one. Or at least a toy with flashy lights.

10) Tenor recorders. They sound really pretty, and I am going to get one... someday. When I have a recorder consort to play with regularly.

"Right. Being a world-famous Theorem-creator wouldn't, either. That's what I've been thinking, that maybe life is not about accomplishing some bullshit markers. Wait, what's funny?"

"Nothing, it's just like--I was thinking that your realization is like if a heroin addict suddenly said, 'You know, maybe instead of always doing more heroin, I should, like, not do heroin."
