The ow of the day
10/11/07 19:01I don't think I've fallen off my bike since that January three years ago. Actually, that's a pretty good streak, considering that I walk into doors and walls all the time.
Anyway: right as you're going from Lake Johnson to the sidewalk on the other side of the street, there's a ditch filled with big, sharp rocks. And over the ditch, there's a path that humps sharply upward. As I went over this, my gear was too high, my wheel slipped away from me, and I went off the path onto the bit sharp rocks.
The last thought I had before I went over is, "Those are the kind of rocks that could seriously maim a person."
My next thought was, "Coooool, I'm bleeding." That's the adrenaline talking. And then, "I must look like my boyfriend beat me up. Hope I look decent by Tuesday."
A couple people rushed over to help me because it looked like a really bad fall. But I certainly didn't feel awful; I felt well enough to bike the rest of the way home, carry my bike down the stairs, and hang it up on the rack. I'm not really banged up except for a little bit between my nose and my lip, and one wrist and one ankle don't feel so hot.
Considering the terrain, I'm tremendously glad it wasn't any worse.
