Spent the latter end of the morning beating my apartment into submission, except for:

-Dishes.
-Refrigerator.
-Bookshelves.

...Ah, my bookshelves. They're going to take away my MLIS for this, aren't they?

(That is also all the furniture contained in my living room.)

The nice thing about getting older is that I recognize all my cycles of moods. This one is "I suck and I haven't cleaned the floor!" and it tends to go away after I actually clean the floor. Being tired and listening to the Splendid Table and having a bright shiny place is a Good Thing.

So, last January I decided that I was going to take either one of the kanji proficiency tests or one of the Japanese Language Proficiency Tests this year.

To my dismay, the place in NY that was doing the kanji tests actually only does it once per year (the Japanese locations do it three times a year) and that time was... today. Whoops.

Well, okay then! I guess I'm taking level 1 of the JLPT. I know I could pass level 2, and while I'm perfectly happy to go up to NY for no reason whatsoever, I wouldn't feel right going to the ninja restaurant or a Broadway show or hitting every Japanese bookstore in a 20-mile radius if I wasn't going to challenge myself. That's it then: no buying stupid stuff this month; I'll get some study books, and it's good timing because I wanted to order some just-for-fun books anyway.

This is me doing the "We're all gonna die" dance.

[Meaghan: December 2nd, at Columbia. Let me know if the timing doesn't work out. But registration doesn't start till August so you don't have to let me know right this moment.)

In other news, I'm sorry, this isn't subtitled, and it doesn't really work without understanding the narration, but it made me go fu fu fu fu fu. (It links to some of the other Japanese Tradition videos, and they're good, but I like the tea one because it's so subtle...by comparison, at least).
