I knew it was coming, but it seems very strange that in three hours the library will be closing and not opening again until the spring. No more Crazy Homeless Guy! A whole new set of small cute kids! Commuting to Garner! Having different options for lunch than Subway and Burger King, huzzah. (New Year's resolution: more boxed lunches). And when I come back the library will be twice as large and maybe collection development will listen to me and we'll get some decent new books.

Even though the situation at the library is, you know, 98% good, every once in a while I overhear something like "she doesn't like black people," and, yeah, that's not so much fun. (Apparently I'm racist when I get on teenagers' cases for being loud and obnoxious, and I'm racist when I don't. So.)

I would like to think that I am capable of being mature and sensible.

But there's nothing like bringing in Celtic Christmas music* to work to make me think, "I am so white, vampires will be going to me for makeup tips."

Also, the Sufjan Stevens Christmas CD is good.

*Nobody around is likely to be more bothered about separation of church and state than I am, so I'm basically content to let it drop and join in with the Christmas music.
