Days when it's all worth it
3/7/06 18:57I just had the cutest kid alive in here. He needed to find a Newbery medal winner; he liked horror books. (You will be able to guess the number of horror books that have actually won a Newbery).
The Giver? No copies in the library. Holes? Wrinkle in Time? Likewise. We eventually settled on The Westing Game, plus a Bone comic for fun reading. But what was remarkable about the whole thing was the incredible enthusiasm; he was like a full-body "YES!"
He was enthusiastic about Holes. He was enthusiastic about Wrinkle in Time. He was enthusiastic about The Westing Game. He was thrilled that Bone was in black and white.
It's nice; in this job I haven't had many opportunities to be an actual children's librarian (as opposed to generalist reference person, circulation assistant, and technical monkey--not bad jobs, or jobs I mind doing, mind you).
(Oh, and I drove to work today! Alone! Driving so much better--faster, anyway--without anyone in the passenger seat getting terrified by my driving).
