Someone in the Japanese community was looking for modern poetry, which basically I don't know from a hole in the ground, but I do know Tawara Machi.

I once had a very nice book of modernist-ish poetry by a guy named Jun'ichirou, which narrows it down so much. I lost it in the move(s) and probably will not be able to replace it.

Anyway, Tawara Machi has a bunch of online tanka. She's a good writer, and the Japanese is pretty simple.

「また電話しろよ」「待ってろ」いつもいつも命令形で愛を言う君

"Call me." "Wait for me."
You only speak your love
In the imperative

はなび花火そこに光を見る人と闇を見る人いて並びおり

Fireworks, fireworks.
Those looking at the lights, and those looking at the darkness,
Lined up in a row

I am working on my paper. Really, I am.

1400-some words, I think, or 1500, mostly cut-and-pasted, but I also typed out generous quotes from secondary sources, most notably the hilarious Seduction of the Innocent, the famous book that led to the Comics Code and all that bad stuff.

Comic books definitely make you gay and immoral. Not to mention illiterate. Just look at how gay, immoral, and illiterate I turned out. I can not-read in four different languages!

The pic is from a book I have called Kitsune hyaku-monogatari. It's a fox wedding. The book has a very neat picture of a fox with a skull on its head, but it didn't turn out well when reduced to tiny size, which is a pity.

This, of course, I got from copy-pasting most of my lit review... but progress is progress.
