13/11/05 22:09I KNOW it's not my imagination that the Commercial Onslaught started earlier than usual this year.
Oh, wait, actually I don't. I haven't watched American TV in November in some five years.
Leave me alone! I did my Christmas shopping, leave me alone!
(Actually I did. I have yet to press the 'purchase' button, but I've gotten the selection part done).

There are problems with writing a book with metaphysical premises that presuppose divine intervention; in particular, I'm not quite sure how I will end this without a deus ex machina. It's interesting, because this book probably started with a roleplaying conversation that happened several years ago, in which the GM stated that there weren't any atheists since you had objective evidence of the existence of god(s). People don't believe a lot of things for which there's objective evidence, of course. And that's even more the case when your beliefs are tied up with your philosophical beliefs, beliefs about the fundamental nature of the universe--look at how people still argue about evolution. So one of the things I'm exploring in this story is, what would a world with objectively provable divine interference look like?
One can wring a whole lot of words out of the theological discussions.
(Not to worry, I don't actually think this is a good thing in any aesthetic sense. At this point I am throwing up as much as possible against the wall to see if I can generate anything interesting).
