Laundry day. I have actually managed to demolish my laundry bag by dragging it over pavement. It was very, very heavy, and I couldn't carry it any more.

And I've got cinnamon bread rising, because I was in a mood to bake bread. It smells lovely.

I took some of my old Please Save My Earth manga to the laundromat to read. Ah, I'd forgotten how much I love it. And how tear-jerking it can get; not exactly the best thing to read at the laundromat.

PSME was one of the first manga I ever read. Not a great choice; seven characters with seven past lives to keep track of, and not all the characters are necessarily telling the truth about who their past lives are. Two plotlines to keep track of. Enough scientific jargon to stymie me a little bit back then. I think that was why I never finished reading the series. Still, though, isn't it all so beautifully tragic? I should pick up those last volumes someday.

And, against all odds, it's out in English now. I really would like to read the translation; there are a couple points that were just entirely untranslatable, and the casual not-quite-homophobia that was no doubt entirely realistic in 1987 reads awkwardly these days. But, anyway, more people should read it!

So I liked Serenity. I was deeply, deeply dismayed by a plot development or two; I think it's more a very good and very long TV episode than a real movie, though I'm not sure if I could articulate why; and the beginning hinted at such a cookie-cutter SF movie that I'm really not surprised it isn't making that much money. Everything came together in the second half, though, and turned into such sheer fun. Space battle are certainly much improved when you CARE about the characters involved (I'm looking at you, George Lucas).

Mmmm. Cinnamon bread.
