Unpopular fandom opinion
6/4/12 22:16I am not getting the appeal of a series that seems to consist of
(a) intriguing situation. Surprise! People are terrible!
(b) intriguing situation. Surprise! Violence solves everything!
Or rather, I do get it... for the kind of 15-year-old glibertarian who prides himself on being a great deal more ruthless and pragmatic than the sheeple around him.
I guess it bugs me that the stories have the nature of parables without either espousing morals I can believe in or raising questions that interest me.
Doctor Who works for me even when it's bad because it is about the triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism. If brute force and cynicism are going to win... you've got to do a lot better than that. Even when the series comes with an androgynous badass girl and her talking motorcycle.
