There are two VERY good things about the Death Note spinoff movie, L: Change the World:

Matsuyama Ken'ichi's feral and fascinating performance as L;
And his tricked-out hacker crepe truck.

It is possible I overidentify with a smart, multilingual guy with poor posture, messy hair, an insatiable sweet tooth, and zero social skills. Note that this does not mean I like L.

The plot, which involves a virus engineered as a combination of ebola and influenza, and a radical ecoterrorist group, is preposterous, every other actor is wooden, and there are a lot of contrivances and cliches; but the film is entertaining enough as a character piece. Watch L deal with small children! Watch L try to stand up straight! Watch L attempt physical activity!

But the movie is far too slight for its over two hours.

Well, I pretty much just want to watch Matsuyama Ken'ichi as L for 2 hours, so. :P Seeing someone inhabit a manga character so thoroughly is totally fascinating.

I haven't even seen the anime, or read the manga, but he IS fascinating. If you like that, I can definitely recommend it.

I've mostly just seen the other movie and read a tiny bit of the manga. :)
