This is the sort of thing I should expect when I read Library Journal: I've been in this profession 2 and a half years, and I'm still not making the average starting salary for librarians. (We're supposed to have a retroactive raise coming through around January - I hope.)
I like Brooklyn, a lot, and I like my library system a lot. Now that I'm in Writing Jail most nights, now that I get along with my roommate, now that I can turn my thermostat up to a sinfully indulgent 68 degrees if I want to, I'm shopping for groceries, my restaurant bills have dropped, and I'm happy living frugally. I have nothing to complain about.
Still: really?
