N. Virginia Public Library also wants a phone interview! So yay!

Looks like the best of options so far; the cost of rent is high-ish, and it's a military area, but East coast, near a big city, full-time public library job--that works for me. (I'm still interested in the California one, naturally, but when all my family's on the east coast, and I won't be making all that much money...maybe it would be good not to go all that way).

I have recently learned about the idea of spending money as a counterphobic behavior: spending money to convince yourself that you actually have money and don't need to worry about money. I'm feeling it now. I am managing not to give in.

It is hard not to be envious when you have my little sisters.

My family got a new computer this week, which is absolutely fair and reasonable, because the old one is six years old and never had the memory to run Windows XP in the first place, but SOMEBODY decided to install it anyway, so it hadn't been running that well. But I would like a better computer set-up than the current one, and it makes me envious. (The current computer set-up involves resting my external keyboard on top of the old laptop keyboard, with the result that I can't type and mouse at the same time).

But the same weekend, younger sister L. was in New York. L. went to the American school in Paris for two years, and so all her friends from there are seriously rich. And she lived with our dad, who is...just a little overindulgent, so she might be spoiled. A bit. I think there's a whole class issue running under the relationship between me and my twin on one side, and the two younger sisters on the other, because we older ones remember when our roof leaked and we went out to the movies once a year at most, and the younger ones only remember things being financially much better. (Better: there are now 3 TVs in the family house, and 2 people.) So my standard of the minimum acceptable standard of living is a little lower than theirs is; I think that they are spoiled, they think that I am a hopeless ascetic with bad fashion sense. L. ran out of money in New York, and asked for money to be wired to her, but it was the weekend, and so Meaghan had to go take some money to her. She wanted $180. For clubbing and taxi and dinner with her friend. I don't know, I think if you run out of money you take the subway and go to McDonald's, and you stand up to your stupid entitled friends. But I wouldn't have an issue with it if I couldn't use some money myself...

But, also, she made my sister wait an hour while she was walking uptown to meet her instead of taking the taxi like she said she would. Which is just rude. I mean, it's not like the girl doesn't have a cell phone...

Hello!

I saw this entry on a friend's friend page, and I thought I would drop you a line. I saw that you have an interview up here in NoVa (I live in Manassas or McLean, depending on what week it is). Anyway, yeah, NoVa is definitely high-rent, and I grew up here, but I love the place.

I just wanted to stop in and say hello, and if you get the job, welcome to Virginia. If you have any questions about the area, feel free to drop me a line. :3

Hope I didn't creep you out too much.

You only recently learned about spending money as a counterphobic behavior? Not when the stocks were going down and Louis bought a POOL TABLE?

Thanks for feeling my L.-pain. You forgot the part where I could have gone into the bookstore because it was one flight up but I stayed downstairs- outside, in the not-too-cold and not-quite raining dampness, because I was under the impression she would be there in 5 minutes.
