27/5/14 17:59I still have a lot of hearts and sparkles about the WisCon vid party
AND I have a pretty fast new computer.
(At this point the logical part of me says "What, you need a new hobby?" and the less logical part of me says "Shut up!")
(I am well-off enough that I'm not going to pirate software but also not so well-off that I'm willing to spend even enough money for Microsoft Office, so this does depend on how far I can get with free/cheap software.)
But seriously, Faye Valentine/any Shiina Ringo song would be pretty amazing, right? (What are the logistics of foreign language songs in vids, anyway? Subtitle both the original language and the translation?)
Also I should listen to more new music because no one cares about Shiina Ringo like I care about Shiina Ringo.

28/5/14 00:02 (UTC)I don't vid, myself, but I think generally what people do is link to the lyrics in both languages. Subtitles are considered distracting, or something? (Personally I would say yes, subtitle in both.)
Hey now, I care about Shiina Ringo at least as much as you do! :D

28/5/14 00:37 (UTC)Probably the best thing is to do a subbed and unsubbed version. Hypothetically speaking.

28/5/14 19:54 (UTC)I make English subtitles for all my vids as a separate .srt file - then you can offer it for download or add it to the youtube/streaming version (then it's a dropdown option in youtube). The .srt file is super easy to make and I can give you a template if you want. Good for all kinds of access reasons, and ppl who find it distracting can turn it off.
For songs in a language that your main audience doesn't speak, most people link to the lyrics in both languages and make subtitles (I vidded a Japanese song a few months ago and made an English subtitles file b/c I knew my audience was mostly English speakers at the time, but also linked to the Japanese lyrics).
Vidding can be daunting at the beginning but there's tons of community and resources if you want to learn! <3

29/5/14 03:21 (UTC)That's useful information about subtitles, thanks! That makes a lot of sense.

31/5/14 08:14 (UTC)Also, I definitely did subtitles as an .srt file (I can tell you my process if you're interested, as I am a little obsessed about it after subtitling a ton of vids for the party). I personally put the Chinese and Swedish lyrics in the subtitles with the English translation right under, kind of how anime fansubbers will do the opening credit songs. I was debating doing one that was the Chinese characters + pinyin but I was too lazy. And I wasn't sure if anyone but me would care.
I personally love having the subtitles because I almost always miss a ton of the lyrics, and because I'm really used to having everything subtitled from Taiwan. Also, karaoke!
Also Faye Valentine!!
